  1. The flower I miss most from Rochester is lilacs – the smell, the color, and driving through Highland Park in season, with the car window open. They don’t grow in the south – winters too warm and summers too hot. However, I have just learned about a variety of Korean lilac that a friend is having success with here. The look is a bit different but there is a true lilac smell. I’m going to try it!

  2. for Phyllis: Nothing quite matches Highland Park’s display. I miss it too. I have one lilac in my yard — actually a neighbor’s but it grows into my yard and I see more of it than she does. Beautiful color, and it has that wonderful lilac smell.
