Calling all of my birder friends: what might this be? Jet black, with a big orange spot, found alongside Green Lake.
All-knowing Google says could be red winged blackbird, although this one has no white ridge along with the orange. Or, could be Agelaius.
Anybody have a guess?
Type of Red-winged Blackbird. From my bird book: Males in central California have no yellow on their shoulder patch. They are sometimes called Bicolored Blackbirds.
for Price: Nice to hear from you! And thanks for the confirmation from your bird book. The orange spot against the dark black feathers was quite distinctive.
