Drinking fresh coconut water is something health conscious people do in our culture. You can get coconut water in the supermarket, in health food stores, and online. In Panama, drinking coconut water means climbing up a tree to drop a young coconut, and applying a machete to cut through the hard shell. Gloria asked Lolo, who comes most days to attend to our yard, to get her a more mature coconut so that she could make rice with coconut and guandu, called pigeon peas in the U.S.. I asked her if Lolo could also get us a young coconut so we could share the drink inside, and he very kindly did.
Everyone is squinting because it’s really sunny. 🙂 Not Lolo, though. He’s never without a hat.
