Conscious Aging: Clothes Make the Woman

I met downtown for a drink on Friday with a friend and former business colleague from Rochester who was in Seattle for a few days. He was staying at one of our more chi chi hotels, the Four Seasons, where a glass of wine costs $28. That’s more than the trendy new Deep Dive Bar beneath the Amazon spheres. In honor of the occasion I dressed as I would have for a biz meeting: crisply tailored slacks, boots, a classy leather jacket, nice jewelry. Normally I am very casual in mostly casual Seattle: a long sleeve GAP cotton T-shirt, comfortable pants, walking shoes, a fleece pullover for warmth.

We talked about financial markets here and globally, his new work opportunities, his family’s recent travel to Central Asia. I felt back in a professional mode, having conversations that are no longer typical for my retired life in Seattle. I was glad I’d dressed the part.

Fun to dip back in for a two hour meet up. Not tempted to be in that professional role full time. 🙂
