Serena Falls Short

Angelique Kerber defeated Serena Williams rather easily in the Wimbledon women’s final, 6-3  and 6-3. I’m disappointed. Reaching the Wimbledon final 11 months after giving birth is no mean feat, but I know Serena hoped for more — hoped to match Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam wins.

I hope Serena keeps playing, and that she gets another shot at a Grand Slam win. I think the sport is not quite done with her raising her arms in victory. I’m certainly not.

  1. I am of course thrilled that Serena lost. I am so sick of hearing about her baby that I could throw up. She is a great athlete, yes, but she is not the only person ever to give birth (even a difficult birth) and enough already!
