Travel: July 4th

I think of July 4th as the official kick-off of the summer season. Here at the Jersey shore it’s 98 degrees, sunny and muggy — pool weather for sure. With the humidity, it feels like 108 degrees.

I try to vary my exercise, so I’m swimming laps instead of doing my usual brisk walking or gym routine. Interestingly, exercise doesn’t exactly carry over, so being fit at walking and gym things doesn’t mean being a fluid or especially fit swimmer, as I used to be at a much younger age. I don’t swim regularly in Seattle, not even when I belonged to the downtown YMCA. I’m getting a bit better and a bit stronger every day. One thing I haven’t recovered is my breathing rhythm doing the crawl stroke. I hyperventilate. No races for me any time soon.

  1. Keep working on it! Glad to hear you never stop exercising, just pick different things around your environment! Nice job.
