I agree entirely with the dissent by Justice Sotomayor, likening the Supreme Court’s affirmation of Trump’s Muslim ban to the shameful 1944 Korematsu decision legitimizing internment camps for Japanese American citizens during World War II.
The Republican Senate under Mitch McConnell denied President Obama the right to have his Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, considered by the Senate. After Trump’s election, that led to the appointment of Neil Gorsuch — and a conservative five member majority on the Supreme Court.
The integrity of the Court used to be sacrosanct, although I suppose I’ve been naive in not viewing it as a political body. No more. Chief Justice Roberts said the Court simply calls balls and strikes. Not hardly.
