  1. More than any other northern flower that does not grow in the south, I MISS LILACS! Remember walking through or driving by Highland Park in Rochester when they were in bloom? What a wonderful scent and color. Lucky you that Seattle has them.

  2. for Phyllis: I too love lilacs, and I think the Rochester Lilac Festival is a wonderful thing. We used to go more than once during the couple of weeks that the lilacs were in bloom. The horticulturist there experimented with new varieties of color and scent, and the experience was ever-changing. I never cared much for the hoopla going on along Highland Ave — it was the lilacs that drew me.

  3. for Katie: I feel as if we’ve just about turned the corner into spring — many more sunny days than rain.
