NRA Lobbyist: The Power of One

The number of people who hunt or own firearms as a  hobby is declining. But more guns are owned by a smaller number of people — meaning the crazies are stocking up against what they fear is the coming Armageddon. Yet the influence and power of the NRA continues to grow, seemingly unabated. Wondering how that happens? Read this New Yorker article about Marion Hammer, the all-powerful NRA lobbyist in Florida.

It’s astonishing to me that a single lobbyist can have this much power, but if you look at the gun laws in Florida, and the gun laws in other states that are modeled on Florida, Marion Hammer clearly does.

When you read this, it’s no wonder that all Florida politicians including Governor Scott and Senator Rubio choke when asked if they will go against the NRA.
