Panama 2018 Day 10: Bringing Milenys

Family life in the village is a complicated as it is anywhere else. Gloria has not seen her four year old granddaughter, Milenys, for more than three months. The little girl’s mother and Gloria’s son Raoul are separated, and there are some painful unresolved issues of access for Raoul, Gloria, and the rest of their family.

I had promised Milenys last year that she could come to the beach again when I returned this January. Four is old enough to remember a promise.

I suggested to Gloria that she call the little girl’s mother, and ask on my behalf that Gloria and Raoul be allowed to collect Milenys on Saturday night in Penonome, where she now lives, and bring her to the pool on Sunday. Gloria was pessimistic , but said she would give it a try.

Gracias a Dios, the answer was yes. Gloria was beside herself with joy. We expect her here with Milenys and Gabrielito — who’ve been raised like siblings and surely miss each other.

Hoping to have pics later in the day on Sunday.
