I read a lot, and when I have a favorite author like Flannery O’Connor, I read everything she’s written, some pieces multiple times. I know the rhythm of her writing, the speech cadence of her characters. This could be a line right out of a Flannery O’Connor short story, words from the lips of one of her characters, rich meaning in a few simple words. Minga was describing how she feels receiving dialysis.
“I’m between life and death, and it’s no way to live.”
