Panama November 2017: Minga and the Soccer Team

We had breakfast early on Saturday, needing to leave the hotel at 7:30am for Minga’s 10 a.m. dialysis. Having a 10a.m. slot doesn’t mean you get in at 10a.m. It means you are part of the group that comes at 10a.m. The earlier you get there, the better number you get — like being in a bakery or a deli here. There is some wiggle room in the numbers: people who are hospitalized and need dialysis go first, then the elderly and handicapped, then everyone else. Minga was luck — she had #2 for the 10a.m. slot. The hospitalized people seemed to have gone in at 5a.m.

As we were leaving the hotel, the Panamanian National Developmental Soccer team was gathered. This is what we’d call the semi-pro league; these young men are on their way to a professional career with the Panamanian National Team. Minga wanted a picture, and four of the young men very kindly obliged. She was quite thrilled. 🙂
