Panama November 2017: “Dessert Coffee”

At home I drink my coffee strong and black, but here in Panama coffee means cafe con leche: espresso-strength coffee filling about 2/3 of the cup, then warm milk, then sugar. My friend Jane calls the mix “dessert coffee”.

On the way downstairs to have breakfast, with my first cup of cafe con leche. Gloria is coming into the city to spend the morning with me, and then Minga will come around lunchtime. After she rests, we’ll have our first conversation.

  1. for Katie: Minga remembers some visitors to Panama more than others. She remembers you, and says she is so happy you are thinking of her and concerned about her.
