Breitbart and Steve Bannon anchor the right wing echo chamber, which proclaims as fake news anything that doesn’t fit their bitter and apocalyptic world view. The echo chamber is defending Roy Moore, and you can anticipate the same strategy if and when Robert Mueller finds evidence of wrongdoing by Trump and his family and his allies. The echo chamber will declare anything reported by Mueller, anything covered by CNN, the Washington Post or New York Times, as fake news.
Whatever happens to the Trump presidency, his core supporters — still 36% or so — won’t believe the evidence. They’ll believe the people who tell them what they want to hear, and if the Moore supporters are any kind of measure, they’ll stand ferociously behind Trump no matter what.
We’ll all see if the nation can survive the clash.
