Lily on Her Way Home

Lily has spent the last week in Nicaragua, visiting the capitol, Managua, plus the cities of Leon, Masaya, and Grenada. Masaya has a volcano, which was new to Lily. Panama has one too, near the western-most city of David, called Volcan Baru — but I suspect Lily has never been there.

I’m curious about all the pics of old churches they’ve visited, only a couple of which I’ve posted. Lily is Roman Catholic like most of her family, but not especially religious. There are very old churches all through Central America — now they seem to me to function more as tourist sites than as centers of living faith communities. Even very Catholic countries have experienced a fall-off in piousness and engagement among church members.

Lily is on her way back home after two very adventuresome weeks. She is truly now what we call “a traveler”. 🙂

  1. for Katie: She’s been a bold and eager traveler — I think she did every possible thing she could during the trip, didn’t waste a minute. I have no doubt that as her finances allow, she’ll expand her world further.
