The kids have swimming lessons on Friday after school, and Matt typically takes them — which leaves me free to enjoy a lazy summer afternoon in Seattle. I sat on my balcony in my 20+ year old but still comfortable Brown Jordan rocking chair, with a cup of green jasmine tea and my Touching the Rock book. John Hull’s eloquent story is so packed with reflections on blindness and on life that I’m reading it again, more slowly and meditatively. The weather is actually still warm and sunny, but the smoky haze has not yet cleared. In the pic below the sky looks cloudy, but it actually isn’t — that’s haze. You’re looking right where Mount Rainier should be visible, but we haven’t been able to see the mountain in over a week.
