There is, in Native American heritage, a strong spiritual significance to seeing a blue heron: the heron brings a message of self-determination and self-reliance. Yesterday I spotted a heron in a waterway along my regular walking path. Herons are beautiful birds, and I take to heart whatever spiritual message they may portend.

There was such a strong glare I couldn’t see very well to frame the pic, so the heron is in the lower left quadrant. I wish I had gotten more heron and less rock, but there it is. Can you spot it, just at the edge of the rocks, feet in the water?

  1. for Joyce: I know! They are remarkably graceful in flight, but seem quite top heavy on the ground.
