Lily sent a new picture of Minga and her great-grandson Pedro Josue on the occasion of the village patronales celebration. Pedro Josue is dressed for the pageant as some sort of religious figure, Santo Tomas maybe. The beard is, of course, applied; Pedro Josue is much too young to have facial hair.
Those of you who’ve visited Panama know this young boy as Josue; his father is Pedro. Actually, the child was baptized Pedro Josue, and of late he’s been preferring to be called Pedro. I’m guessing he’s in the third grade this year. He and Minga look very close in height. I think my Panamanian sister is shrinking!
Lily says that Minga is doing fairly well, although showing her age. I think she looks tired, which is related to her kidney disease. But she still dresses nicely, and gets up and out for something as important as the patronales. I’m looking at her beautifully embroidered skirt, likely Rufina’s handiwork.
