Savannah: Candle Lighting

I only do one Roman Catholic thing any more, and that’s light a candle in church when a real one is available, not a flickering small electric bulb. The latter just doesn’t do it for me. Flannery’s St. John’s has a bank of candles, and to their credit, they only suggest that you give a donation while lighting. Try getting away with that at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York.

I don’t know myself if the candle is some sort of religious remnant, or just a soothing memory. Anyway, I like doing it and take every chance I get — which isn’t many, as my visits to churches are few.
