Travel is distracting in the best possible way — my time in New York has offered a break from the daily tumult that is the Trump reality TV show. I did catch an interview with our new Supreme Court justice, Neil Gorsuch, in which he talked about his legal opposition to physician assisted suicide.
I’m always taken aback by the degree to which religious conservatives believe in using the power of the secular state to enforce their beliefs on the rest of us. I can understand physician assisted suicide as an ethical and moral issue, as a complex family matter, and as a potentially wrenching personal choice. I can’t understand why my choices around end of life issues are any of Neil Gorsuch’s business. Now, with him on the court, I guess they are.
