Tartan Day Parade: Leask-for-a-Day

I was thrilled to march along with 23 Leasks — I haven’t been in a parade since I was about 8 and marched with my Brownie troop down Kearny Avenue on some holiday, maybe Memorial Day. The eldest Leask marcher was Katie’s mother Margaret, who is 90, and the youngest was Katie’s granddaughter Fiona, age 3. Katie is one of ten; five of whom were here for the parade along with various nieces, nephews, spouses, and one invited Leask-for-a-Day, me. I think anything that brings extended families together for a celebration of shared or adopted cultural heritage is a wonderful thing. We marched down Sixth Avenue in brilliant sunlight, and it was quite the day.
