Getting to Know Seattle: Cherry Blossoms at UW

Cherry blossoms at their peak tend to last only a few days, so I was lucky that friend Louise and I were able to visit the UW campus on Monday, before I leave for New York. The cherry blossoms on the quad are unusual in that the trees are large and old and well-developed; the blossoms are gorgeous. Students were wandering around taking photos; families were picnicking. What a treat.

  1. for Alexis: These mature trees really were remarkable — great foresight on the part of whoever designed this tree planting decades ago.

  2. for Phyllis” “Peak” is often only a few days with cherry blossoms — a good rain or wind storm can end the spectacle in short order. Glad I caught these at just the right moment.
