Happy 2017

Happy New Year to all. I don’t really make New Year’s resolutions, but I commit to making this a year in which I do everything I personally can to bring our democracy back to its core values, its sense of decency, and to a shared sense of hope in the future.

  1. for Linda: I’m doing two things for starters: continuing my increased giving to Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and the Southern Poverty Law Center. And, a friend and I are asking for a meeting with our Senator Patty Murray to share our concerns and to hear from her what constituents can do to support Democrats in Congress. Much more is needed, I know.

  2. for Phyllis: If you can think of any additional ways that we can take action, let me know. I’m all in.

  3. I have recently donated to our local (it is nation wide) group called Dress for Success. It is an organization that helps women access clothes for job interviews. It also helps with counseling women on how to have successful interviews.

  4. for Joyce: There was a group like this in Rochester, and I often gave them business suits I was no longer using. They provide a wonderful service — great place to give and to support women breaking into the job market.

  5. Thank you for an energising and focusing post – and the reminder about Dress for Success in the comments is useful as I am going to be leaving my job in a few months and have a wardrobe of suits to get rid of!

  6. for Catherine: The Dress for Success project in various cities is an easy way for many of us to help aspiring women get a leg up on interviewing. Often our business suits remain wearable and good-looking long after we choose to wear them!
